New route to access grant data

Europe PMC has released a new GRant Information SysTem (GRIST) that is loaded with grant data from the 20 Europe PMC funders. It includes all of the data provided by the Funders from the beginning of the UKPMC service (which was rebranded to Europe PMC during 2012). This equates to 44,000 grant records relating to nearly 19,500 principal investigators (PIs). GRIST is built by Mimas, University of Manchester.

GRIST has established a definitive set of grant data, including funder, grant dates, PI name(s) and institution. GRIST also captures additional grant details, for example abstracts in different languages, and also caters for emerging initiatives such as ORCID.

A RESTful API has been released to provide access into the GRIST database.  The new API can also be found via the ‘Resouces’ menu on the Europe PMC home page. Take the Web Services sub-menu option, followed by the ‘RESTful (grants)’ option. Anybody can use the GRIST API to search the database, and examples of how to use the service are provided on the API page. The GRIST API will also be used to feed the revamped Grant Lookup Tool (GLT), which is due for release towards the end of the year, and is also generally available.

Find out who is being funded to do what, and for how much!

We hope that this tool will be of benefit, and we look forward to receiving your feedback.

Please tell us what you think!
